Consumer Unit Replacement & Fuse Board Upgrades in London

Your consumer unit (fuse board) is the heart of your electrical system. Older boards with rewireable fuses or no RCD protection no longer meet modern safety standards. AC Kinetic supplies and fits modern RCBO consumer units across London — safer circuits, individual protection and full certification on completion.

Why upgrade your fuse board

Boards more than 15–20 years old often lack RCD protection against electric shock and may use outdated rewireable fuses. A modern board with individual RCBOs means a fault on one circuit no longer trips the whole property, and every circuit is protected against both overload and earth leakage — as required by the 18th Edition (BS 7671:2018+A2:2022).

What's included

Our consumer unit replacements are fixed-price and include labour, the new metal-clad board, RCBOs, all connections, testing, and the Electrical Installation Certificate on completion. We size the board to your circuits — 6, 8, 10 or 12-way — and leave it neatly labelled.

Signs you need a new consumer unit

Frequent tripping, a board with an old-style cast-iron or wooden back, rewireable fuses, no RCD, scorching or a burning smell, or a failed EICR citing the consumer unit are all signs it's time for an upgrade. We'll advise honestly whether replacement is genuinely needed.

Questions

Consumer Unit / Fuse Board Upgrades — FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we're asked most.

How much does a consumer unit replacement cost?

Cost depends on the size of board required (number of ways/circuits) and site conditions. We quote fixed prices that include labour, materials and certification — contact us with your circuit count for an exact figure.

How long does it take to replace a fuse board?

Most domestic consumer unit replacements are completed within a day, including testing and certification. Power is off only for the working period, and we restore it the same day.

Do I legally need to upgrade my consumer unit?

There's no law forcing an upgrade, but a board that fails an EICR, or lacks RCD protection, will need attention to make the installation safe and compliant — especially for rented properties.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. Every consumer unit replacement is notified and comes with an Electrical Installation Certificate confirming the work meets BS 7671.
