Why upgrade your fuse board
An assessment of the existing installation determines the protective devices needed. Individual RCBOs combine overcurrent and residual-current protection and can reduce the number of circuits affected by a fault. We explain the suitable arrangement before quoting.
What's included
We agree a written scope for the replacement board, protective devices, connections, labelling, testing and Electrical Installation Certificate. The circuit count and assessment determine the equipment. Any remedial wiring work and required notification are identified in the quotation.
Signs you need a new consumer unit
Repeated tripping, heat damage, damaged enclosures or inspection findings warrant investigation. An older board may need improvement, but its age alone does not establish the required work. We assess the cause and explain whether repair, replacement or circuit work is appropriate.
Planning a consumer unit upgrade
Before we quote
Send a photo of the existing board and tell us about the property, circuit count and planned additions such as an EV charger. We check the installation and agree the protection and scope appropriate to the work.
During the work
The electricity supply must be isolated. Arrange access to the board and testing points, and discuss essential equipment with us beforehand. Existing wiring faults may need attention before circuits can be safely reconnected.
Clear exclusions
A replacement board does not automatically include rewiring the property or correcting every existing fault. We explain any extra work and agree the price before proceeding.

How much does a consumer unit replacement cost?
Fixed prices, with surge protection: single-phase 7-way £665 + VAT (£798), 11-way £1,045 + VAT (£1,254), 15-way £1,425 + VAT (£1,710). Larger and three-phase boards are listed in our service terms.
What does the fixed price include?
A like-for-like replacement in the same location, the consumer unit with surge protection, labour, testing, an Electrical Installation Certificate and Building Regulations notification. Remedial work, earthing or bonding upgrades, new meter tails, moving the unit, supply work and making good are quoted in writing before any extra work starts.
How long does it take?
Single-phase jobs are normally done by one electrician, and three-phase or 31-way and larger jobs by two electricians, over a full working day.
How do I book?
Book online, choose your board size and supply type, and upload clear photos of your consumer unit and electricity meter. We review them before the visit. If the job isn't a standard replacement, we agree a written quotation or cancel with a full refund of your deposit. You can also call 07508 525912.
How do I pay, and when do I get the certificate?
A 50% deposit is paid online when you book. The balance is paid by a secure payment link after the work is complete. The Electrical Installation Certificate is issued once the balance is paid, except where the law requires otherwise, and Building Regulations notification is made within the required timescale.
